Ripping music to bits and assembling the pieces into a frequency jigsaw of Frankensteinian proportions! The Monsters third full length release is certainly not for genre purists. To create EARTH EATERS, MZO have moved beyond just splicing and dicing samples and mashups, with Miss P. Leisure securing the mic and creating a new sound using the strangest of vocal effects. They still retain their samplistic roots with plenty of bashment and retrodelica rollers, but add super futuristic basslines, beats which are unrelenting and lyrics about body implants, circuit bending and dancing in the nude to create the sound that is uniquely their own. If you think that bringing together electronica and rock is the same as adding hip hop to pop with the ubiquitous turntable scratching then think again. [HIGHLY RECOMMEND] $24.95 A Slow Rip - For The Time Being 2CD    A Slow Rip are a three-piece from the northern beaches of Wollongong who use group improvisations to create ambient dronescape pieces that are warm, glowing and transformative; some floating, shimmery and reflective and some darker, shadowy and fleeting. Phil Turnbull, Ian Miles and Rob Laurie are analog-based, they use analog and virtual analog synths, 'prepared' guitar, wind instruments and vocal tones and noises, immersed in delay, and recorded to tape. This provides a warm, alive and cohesive basis that Rob later collages into compositions on computer, aided by further editing and effects. A Slow Rip created seven CD-R albums of work between 2003 and 2007. Endgame has distilled the best of this work to form a double-album set titled For The Time Being. CD1 is more synth-drone and the lighter of the two (although not without some contrasting pieces); CD2 is more ambient and instrumental, perhaps the more intricate and moody. $25.95 Black Cab - Jesus East CD    Australian duo BLACK CAB is singer and producer Andrew Coates and guitarist James Lee. With Ritual which is Incomprehensible (to the smile of Pauline Oliveros), Claudio Parodi has spoken with the musical language of Oliveros, a musician he holds in great esteem. Having successfully paid homage to Alvin Lucier, Parodi takes a very different strategy to embody one of the world's leading proponents of deeplistening music. Importantly he brings to the album his talents as a Turkish clarinet player. Parodi manages to use the Turkish clarinet to evoke the sonorous harmony of the bandoneon as used by Oliveros. Additionally, he seamlessly integrates the sounds of the second track from 'Suoni' by Tiziano Milani. This is the album that has inspired Parodi on his musical pilgrimage. In capturing the essence of Oliveros, this album reveals more and more on repeated listening. Each musician is the best in Australia on their respective instrument. The remarkable aspect of The Garden of Forking Paths is that Marc plays in total unison with the other musicians. This is a question that Luca Formentini provides his own answer to on his debut album for Extreme, Tacet ; an album of exquisite grace and enveloping textures. Aiding him on this exploration is a stellar cast of musicians including Markus Stockhausen, Steve Jansen (Japan, Nine Horses), Steve Lawson, Deborah Walker and Frank Moreno. Each of these musicians bring their unique talents to an album that is unified by a shared understanding that silence is a space that is much sort after in today's hectic existence. Tinkler, winner of the 1996 Australian Jazz award and two ARIAs for best Jazz album, is well known for his many brilliant incarnations as an ensemble player, recording and touring with such groups as The Australian Art Orchestra, Mark Simmonds Freeboppers, The Paul Grabowsky Quintet and The Dale Barlow Quintet as well as with international artists such as Mark Helias, Joe Lovano, Betty Carter, Branford Marsalis, Han Bennink, Billy Harper, Arthur Blythe, Cindy Blackman, Karaikudi R Mani and more. With these credentials, Tinkler has a lot of ears trained in his direction. Unlike a lot of DJ albums, this doesn't try to be clever or show offish, every sound and layer is added for maximum relaxation. Nothing's ever forced or rushed; we just drift from one chilled vibe to another. The sounds keep building on themselves, layer upon layer, to create an intriguing textural music that rewards repeated listening. 'Horizontal Mover' (homage to Alvin Lucier) is the first of seven generative compositions that PARODI is recording for Extreme. Other musical luminaries to be showcased in the series include Charles Hayward, Yasunao Tone (of Fluxus) and Alvin Curran. Few musicians have the opportunity to pay homage to their musical idol, much less send them a recording and receive a reply. CLAUDIO PARODI did just this, sending "Horizontal Mover" to Alvin Lucier. 'ringtone', which can also be watched as a short film, is a modern adaptation of e.a.poe's 'the tell-tale heart'. in this version, technology has replaced the function of the human organ. the book features many astounding full page and full colour illustrations (drawings, etchings and prints - none ever seen before) drawn from the dark resesses of thrussell's nightmare world. the images are chilling yet strangely mirthful. enjoy this release if you can - and watch out for the boiled flying saucers on your dinner plate! $35.00 David Thrussell - The Voices Of Reason    david thrussell aka snog, black lung and renowned for various other musical projects offers with this release his own personal thoughts on a spoken word album. despite other famous narrators like jello biafra and henry rollins just to name todays most active spokespersons, the weirdest think tank from down under (or the world?) surprises with subliminal statements on vegans, media, information, tells stories about bizarre journeys, reveals his personal social observations regarding politics, capitalism et al and juxtaposes philosophical aspects of daily routine. "the voices of reason" is not a spoken world album in the common sense - it offers both smooth and happy tunes as well as abstract, experimental soundscapes and beats mingled with the dominating smart voice of thrussell. Or a hopeless romantic hidden in the twisted frame of a dark electronic musician. Late at night Thrussell fantasizes that actually he lives next door to Hieronymous Bosch in Medieval Europe and has hallucinated the whole dreadful modern era while suffering from acute ergot poisoning. We are not entirely convinced that this is not the case.
