Andrew Garton - Son of Science
|
|
|
|
Andrew Garton's tribute to progressive, jazz and psychedelic rock was five years in the making. Described in the liner notes by Warren Brains Dusting, "... this CD contains sounds that are unique, that defy tradition, that can't be categorised, that challenge the listener." With additional synthesiser flourishes from Melbourne's Steve Law, this is a very special album that provides brooding soundscapes and illuminating eccentricities that speak of the complexities of our time and the technologies that burden us.

About Andrew
Andrew Garton is a producer and internationally recognised composer with an early background in community radio and video production. He has been composing and performing electronic and acoustic music since the late 70s and studied composition privately with composer Sykes Rose in the early 80s.
Since 1989 he has contributed to the development of low-cost computer networks in Australia and
countless community networking initiatives throughout Asia Pacific where he explored his cross-cultural
theatre and music interests.
Ultimately I seek to create spaces for inspiration, knowledge sharing and reflection within a commons based society. I create works that attempt to 'shift consciousness', to raise awareness not by threat or fear, but by an appreciation and comprehension that not only are we all in this together, that we are all made of the same stuff. Look up at the night sky and know that we're made of the same stuff of stars' knocks me out every time!
Andrew Garton, Interview, Radio Helsinki, Austria, October 2008
In 1995 Garton established the media arts group, Toy Satellite, and founded Secession Records in 1998. He has produced generative sound works, film scores, sound design and radiophonic works for numerous commissions and self-initiated projects and events. He has also produced several short films, documentaries and hosts open license and production Media Arts Sprints.
In recent years Garton has co-created a virtual company for his label and launched numerous projects such as The Terminal Quartet and his solo Fierce Throat performances. Garton is located some where in the Australian bush, but may also be found any where between Cape Town and Sarawak, or Istanbul and Graz.
